LARS RASMUSSEN

Yet another profiled 'Artist of the Month' from ImagineFX's pages, Lars Ramussen's enthusiasm and sheer commitment to his discipline seems to be his main drive.

Growing up with a die hard passion to draw, but also the 'knowledge' that no one could actually make a living that way (haha), I aimed for the advertising industry. I figured this to be my ticket to do what I enjoyed most. Of course after 10 years in the business, I’ve only done a small handful of actual illustrations, as the job mainly concentrates on layout and general aesthetics. But recently I rediscovered the insane satisfaction of putting pen to paper. There’s a lot to catch up on, but my mind is a thirsty sponge – every day learning new cool things and techniques, and always seeking advice and criticism through the fantastic online art communities – the talent out there is overwhelming.

Due to a recent burglary, my entire portfolio is gone, but this has given me the opportunity to start over – learning and trying everything with a vengeance!

You are suddenly the most powerful person on the planet, what’s the first thing you would do? Turn my powers over to the most intelligent person on the planet (After making Beyonce and Denise Richards mud fight for me.)

What attracted you in contributing to Erth Chronicles? The two most important factors were A: This is a story, that I myself would really like to read. B: Richard takes his vision of Erth very seriously, which makes it worth my time. Other incitements are the immense richness of thought-through details, and a story told with intelligence and creativity.

What’s the most important professional advice you would give a prospective artist? I’m no professional – but practice, practice, practice - draw from life, and don’t spend too much time on what you’re already good at.
