'The author is obviously well versed in classic sci-fi
- the traces of Dune and Brave New World (among others) that
permeate the story mesh well with the world that has been
created, without ever becoming derivative. The nods to writers
as varied as Mieville and Tolkien serve to further enhance
the dystopian vision on display.'Amazon.co.uk

Adapted
from one of the most influential pieces of mythology, Robert
Zemeckis and his team have produced a glowing spectacle of
pixels. Beowulf a classic tale of a flawed hero,
wonderfully adapted by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery.
Of course the original poem’s story has been stretched
out to add a little more weight - but the main gripe is Ray
Winstone’s miscasting as a cockney Dane. If Jolie is
delivered to us as a beautiful woman, Hopkins’ acting
calibre and likeness as king - then surely our hero should
reflect this too? For its full effect, watch it at an IMAX
in 3D for a full five stars.

along with a Newtonian transport over in the Machines
& Weaponry Gallery.
July 18, 2007
Two new versions of the Darathia are up in the Creatures
Gallery. Alan's atmospheric painting has really nailed
a balance between the grotesque and perhaps a sympathetic
nature - a creature that has lost its direction and connection
to the Rojin, wandering the Erth and assimilating any lifeform
they come across.
Jesse
has gone for the more intimidating approach, depicting a lone
Darathia about to fire on an unsuspecting victim.
July 16, 2007

image.

Two new digital paintings from Leoonardo are up in the Scenes
& Environments Gallery. Moku Operates is
loosely based on Thomas Eakins' The
Gross Clinic painted in 1875, and the original inspiration
- Rembrandt's Anatomy
Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. Richard requested that
Glen base a scene from Moku's past on these masterpieces -
helping to depict Moku's struggle to save the life of a fatally
injured Rojin missionary.
June 11, 2007
Alan's new painting of the Siran is up in the Creatures
Gallery. It captures a real sense of underwater atmosphere
and pure viciousness of these creatures - you can see how
much further it has been pushed since adding more deep-sea
and Lovecraft reference.

MAY 21, 2007
Richard has added a new character design of Pirian Horncastle
over in the Galleries. The Rojin Tarot designs are hopefully
to be the first of many depictions of a number of characters.
This one in particular shows Pirian's growth from sick Newtonian,
to potential Rojin hero - the main backbone of the first book
The Enemy's Son. CLICK HERE
MAY 20, 2007

Yet another familiar face from DeviantArt and Imagine
FX has joined us. Check out Jesse Cutler's rendition
of the Rojin and the rest of his work over at his link. Jesse
sent me a similar visual and asked if it could be adapted
in some way. After a few notes on the original he came back
with the example uploaded. Stunning work, the details and
complexity of the suit is very striking. I see the influence
of Frank Herbert's Dune in there, which has often
been a pointer when describing the Rojin further Clearly artists
are listening and more importantly immersing themselves in
the story and Erth Guide. CLICK HERE
MAY 10, 2007

MAY 6, 2007 - FILM RECOMMENDATION
Seven
astronauts on board the Icarus II have the assignment
of saving mankind by detonating a gigantic bomb into the dying
Sun after the Icarus I's transmission is lost. Due to the
screening effect of the solar wind, their communication link
with the Earth is cut. The success of their mission, as well
as their own survival relies solely on their own judgment,
which is altered by the 16-month trip to the star.
Danny Boyle's vision of the future is clearly grounded in
the British ideology. This is straight out of Ridley Scott's
text book of nerve shredding tension as the paranoia amongst
the crew of the Icarus II fly towards the sun on a way trip
to the big yellow thing in the sky. A film that wears its
influences on its sleeve, yet stands firmly on its own two
feet.

fairy tale. The result is some of the best conceptual and
reimagined material you will ever set eyes on. Surpassing
the typical story-art book, The Skillful Huntsman
takes the reader on a step-by-step guide in the creation of
a fully realised world.
